Legend has it that this weapon was invented when a royal bodyguard, fighting off bandits, broke his staff in twain. Though victorious, he was disheartened at the ruin of his favorite staff, and so, at the next town, he had the a blacksmith rejoin the pieces with chain, thus giving birth to the three section staff, or sanjiegun.
