It is commonly believed that this necklace was invented in the late 1870s, however the recently-recovered journal of Sir Richard J. Redman of Dunstable suggests that he developed it more than 200 years prior. It is well known that Redman shortly thereafter developed a gambling addiction that cost him his fortune. Historians now believe that Redman, destitute, resorted to devouring his Celery Charm, leaving no record of it.
